Canevaro Case Italy v Peru

The tribunal was asked whether Italy could claim on behalf of Canevaro, who had Italian nationality by descent from an Italian father and Peruvian nationality by birth in Peru [dual nationality]

Canevaro on several occasions acted as Peruvian citizen, running as a candidate for the senate, and as Consul General of the Netherlands after soliciting authorisation of the Peruvian government. The government of Peru has the right to consider him as a Peruvian citizen and to deny his status as an Italian claimant
